It seems like just yesterday when I heard my daddy say to me with conviction, "Trends come and go, but classics never go out of style."  He constantly preached to me the need to invest in a few good classic and timeless pieces.  When he first told me this, I was about 15 and didn't fully comprehend the nugget he was sharing with me.  The older I got, however, the more his words resonated deep down in my soul. I now realize that this is the best fashion advice he ever gave me.  Each season we look to designers, fashion mags, and bloggers alike to see what's trending; but, does it last???  No.  Every season I stare at my closet, trying to streamline my wardrobe.  Ultimately, I always go back to the basics, which, as my dad said, never go out of style.  They are the foundation of every good wardrobe.  You're familiar, right?  A nice cotton tee, white button-down shirt, a well-fitting pair of jeans, just to name a few.

Since we are on the cusp of Spring, there is one classic that never goes out of style that I would like to feature: THE TRENCH COAT!    Dating back to the late 1800's, this coat went from being worn by soldiers in the trenches in World War I to a staple in every spring wardrobe for the last 100 years.  This coat is a nice investment for men and women on any budget.  It can be worn for work or leisure and can be paired with time-honored pieces or more trendy items.  The options are endless.  The point is:  trends are fun and fresh, but if you build your foundation with items like a trench coat, then you can't go wrong!

There is no time like Spring to start getting that wardrobe together!  The weather is breaking, birds are chirping, and the real estate market is booming (shout out to my real estate hustle here).  Now is the time to streamline and freshen up your wardrobe with a classic trench and a few investment pieces that will last you for years to come. Daddy was right!
